Area residents who saw public service announcements about the National Drug Take Back Day Saturday are reminded that any day can be Drug Take Back Day in Greene County.
Greene County Medical Center and Medicap Pharmacy have partnered to provide MedSafe drug disposal in the main lobby at the medical center. It’s accessible seven days a week when the main lobby is open.
The MedSafe is a secure place to dispose of expired, unwanted or unused medications including prescription and over-the-counter medications; sample medications; prescription ointments; patches; vitamins; and pet medications.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration reports the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. A majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
Items that can’t be disposed of in the MedSafe are needles (sharps), aerosol cans, and non-prescription ointments, lotions or liquids.
